   What is Agronomy? The science and technology of producing and using plants for food, fuel, fiber, and land restoration on an extensive scale. The value per acre is lower than for a typical horticultural crop.

   What is Agriculture? The science or practice of farming, including cultivation of soil for the growing of crops and the rearing of animals to provide food, fiber, and other products.

   Summary of the Difference:

   • Horticulture: Requires intensive management on fewer acres and higher human input per acre, and produces a higher value per acre. Includes ornamental plants and whole foods (like those found in the produce aisle).
   • Agronomy: Requires extensive production on more acres with lower human input per acre, and produces a lower value per acre. Includes animal feed and processed food ingredients, (such as oil, protein, sugar, and starch).
   • Agriculture encompasses both horticultureand agronomy.
